We would like to acknowledge the businesses in our community for their part in eliminating plastic bags and encouraging everyone to bring their own bag. Over 60% of the shops are going plastic bag free!
The newsagent, Paul Band, led the way with retailers in the village and stopped issuing plastic bags on April 1st 2007. Other village shops are now coming on board, with the chemist; the chipshop; the village post office; the Annex cafe, both hairdressers, the library and pizza time all agreeing to bin the bag. This is great news! The Co-op and other retailers are also supporting the campaign, and we’ll be continuing to talk to the butchers and the remaining shops to help them to help us become a 100% plastic bag free village. By encouraging shoppers at the point of sale, we hope to create a culture where people automatically bring a bag with them whenever they go shopping.
